Biography of Adolf Eichmann
Fascist Criminal and Head of SubsectionAdolf Eichmann was a prominent member of the Gestapo and was directly responsible for the destruction of millions of Jews. He served as the head of Department IV-D-4, which was responsible for the "final solution to the Jewish question."
Early Life and Family
Adolf Eichmann was born on March 19, 1906, in Solingen, Germany. His father, Adolf Karl Eichmann, worked as an accountant for the Electric Tramway Company. Eichmann's mother, Maria Eichmann, passed away in 1916. He had three brothers, Emil, Helmut, and Otto, and a sister named Irmgard.
Educational Background
Eichmann attended elementary school in Linz from 1913 to 1917. He then enrolled in a secondary school, where he studied until 1921. After completing his secondary education, Eichmann attended the Federal Higher Technical School for Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Construction in Linz for four semesters.
Entry into the Nazi Party
In 1932, Eichmann joined the SS, the paramilitary organization of the Nazi Party, at the recommendation of Ernst Kaltenbrunner. He was assigned the party membership number 889895 and the SS number 45326. Eichmann quickly rose through the ranks and became an Untersturmführer, or second lieutenant, in 1933.
Role in the SS and SD
Eichmann was transferred to the Security Service (SD) in Vienna in 1938, where he was tasked with handling Jewish affairs. He played a crucial role in organizing the forced emigration of Jews from Austria and later from Czechoslovakia after the annexation of the Sudetenland.
Escape and Capture
After the end of World War II, Eichmann went into hiding under a false identity in Latin America. However, he was captured by Israeli intelligence agents in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on May 13, 1960. Eichmann was secretly extradited to Israel, where he stood trial for his crimes.
The Trial and Execution
Eichmann's trial began in Jerusalem on April 11, 1961, and lasted for over six months. On December 15, 1961, he was sentenced to death by hanging. Eichmann was executed on June 1, 1962, in the Ramla Prison. His last words were a proclamation of loyalty to Germany, Argentina, and Austria. His body was cremated, and his ashes were scattered at sea.
