Early Life and Wartime Struggles

Born in Poland, this renowned ethnomusicologist specialized in the musical folklore of Silesia. During World War II, he actively participated in the resistance movement and was imprisoned in Nazi concentration camps from 1941 onwards.

Post-War Education and Career

After the war, he pursued higher education at the State Higher School of Music in Katowice, earning degrees in music pedagogy and music theory. He also studied law at the University of Economics in Katowice and philosophy at the Jagiellonian University. In 1975, he obtained his doctorate with a dissertation titled "Mining Folk Songs in the Dąbrowa Basin."

As an academic, he held teaching positions in Katowice and Wrocław. From 1991 onwards, he held the prestigious title of Professor. From 1970 to 1973, he served as Vice-President of the Polish Composers' Union.

Ethnomusicological Contributions

From an early age, he dedicated himself to collecting and documenting folk songs in Silesia. His research resulted in the publication of numerous books and articles, including "Silesian Insurgent Songs 1919-1921," "The Odra River in Polish Folk Songs," and "Polish Folk Instruments." His work made significant contributions to the study of musical folklore in his region.
