Biography of Afshan Azad
Afshan Azad is a British actress of Bengali descent. She was born on February 12, 1988, in Manchester, United Kingdom. Her family immigrated from Bangladesh in the 1980s during a time of cultural conflict. Afshan received a conservative Muslim upbringing and is the only daughter in her family, with three brothers.
Education
Afshan Azad attended Whalley Range High, an all-girls secondary school. After completing her education there, she enrolled in Xaverian College, where she studied chemistry, biology, English language, and journalism.
Acting Career
Afshan Azad's only role in film was portraying Padma Patil in the Harry Potter movies. She first appeared in the film "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" in 2005. Afshan accompanied Rupert Grint as his partner at the Yule Ball, while her "twin sister" Parvati Patil (played by Shefali Chowdhury) became Harry Potter's companion. Afshan secured the role of Padma after successfully passing a casting held at her school. She was the only one to advance to the second round and ultimately earned the role.

In the Harry Potter series, Afshan Azad's character, Padma Patil, is a student at the Ravenclaw house, while her sister Parvati belongs to Gryffindor. The name "Padma" means "lotus" in Sanskrit. At the Yule Ball, she initially sat with Ron Weasley but later left to dance with boys from Beauxbatons. In her fifth year, Padma becomes the prefect of Ravenclaw and joins "Dumbledore's Army" alongside Parvati, led by Harry Potter. During her sixth year, after the death of Dumbledore, Padma and Parvati are taken out of Hogwarts by their parents. In the Battle of Hogwarts, both Padma and Parvati defend their school against Voldemort's forces.
Post-Harry Potter
After filming the Harry Potter series, Afshan Azad formed close friendships with Shefali Chowdhury, Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), and Katie Leung (Cho Chang). Currently, Afshan Azad resides in Manchester. She has a love for Indian cinema and admires Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aishwarya Rai.
