AJR, an American indie-pop trio from New York City, has captivated audiences with their infectious melodies and genre-bending sound. The group consists of multi-instrumentalist brothers: Adam, Jack, and Ryan Met.

Foundation and Early Years

The Met brothers, who have described themselves as "culturally Jewish," were born into an artistic family in the Bayside neighborhood of New York City. After relocating to Lower Manhattan in the early 2000s, they attended a specialized school where they discovered their shared passion for indie-pop. Adam and Ryan delved into music technology, while Jack pursued acting.

With the encouragement of their parents, who were both architects, they formed a band and began creating their own music. Using homemade equipment, they recorded cover versions of popular songs and performed in Washington Square Park and Central Park.

Viral Success and Debut EP

Their self-produced music video for "I'm Ready," released in 2012, caught the attention of Steve Greenberg, a former president of Columbia Records. Recognizing their potential, Greenberg helped promote the song, which featured a sample from the popular cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants.

The song quickly gained traction, receiving airplay on major radio stations and national television appearances. AJR followed up with the release of their debut EP, "I'm Ready," in 2013. The EP showcased the trio's unique blend of trap, doo-wop, electro, and dubstep, earning them recognition as breakthrough artists.

Rise to Prominence

Building on their early success, AJR released their second EP, "Infinity," in 2014. The EP contained five original tracks and further cemented their position as rising stars in the indie-pop landscape. Despite a demanding schedule, the brothers prioritized the release of their full-length album, "Living Room," in 2015.

The album featured the hit single "Weak," which received platinum certifications in the United States and Europe. Their third EP, "What Everyone's Thinking," followed in 2016.

Second Album and Global Tour

In 2017, AJR released their sophomore album, "The Click," which included collaborations with Rivers Cuomo of Weezer. The album's success propelled them to new heights, allowing them to embark on a sold-out world tour in 2019.

Their performances captivated fans with a mix of personal and upbeat tracks, including "Next Up Forever," "Wow, I'm Not Crazy," and "Karma." The tour solidified AJR's position as a major force in the music industry.
