Alex Jones was born on February 11, 1974, in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in the suburb of Rockwall, where his father worked as a dentist. Jones graduated from Anderson High School in Austin in 1993 and briefly attended Austin Community College.

Jones began his career in live call-in cable television. In 1996, he moved to radio and hosted "The Final Edition" on KJFK-FM.
