Biography of Alex Pettyfer
Early Life and Education
Alexander Richard Pettyfer was born on April 10, 1990 in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. His parents, Lee Ireland and Richard Pettyfer, were an interior designer and an actor, respectively. He grew up in Windsor and began his career as a model for Gap at the age of seven after meeting fashion designer Ralph Lauren in New York. Pettyfer attended The Mall School in Twickenham and Lambrook Haileybury in Berkshire. He later studied at Millfield School in Somerset and Shiplake College in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. After completing his general education, Pettyfer became a student at the Sylvia Young Theatre School.
Early Career and Breakthrough
In 2005, after a successful modeling career, Pettyfer made his debut on British television in the drama Tom Brown's Schooldays. The role received rave reviews and led to his casting as the lead character Alex Rider in the film Stormbreaker. This role earned Pettyfer nominations for the Young Artist Award and Empire Award, and made him a teen idol worldwide. He also had the opportunity to star in the fantasy film Eragon, but declined due to his fear of flying.
Further Success and Current Projects
Following his breakthrough, Pettyfer starred in the romantic comedy Wild Child alongside Emma Roberts and the horror comedy Tormented. He also appeared in the science fiction thriller I Am Number Four and the modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast, titled Beastly. Pettyfer's upcoming projects include the sci-fi thriller Now with Olivia Wilde, the action film The Mortal Instruments, the biographical drama Shunt about racing driver James Hunt, and the fantasy film The Seventh Son.
Personal Life
Pettyfer has seven tattoos, including a Celtic cross on his chest and Arabic script on his right arm. He dated actress and singer Dianna Agron, star of the TV series Glee, during the filming of I Am Number Four, but the couple broke up amidst rumors of an engagement. Pettyfer has been ranked in lists of the most eligible bachelors and sexiest men by magazines such as Company and Glamour.
