Early Life and Career
Born:20 November 1938, Sverdlovka, Chernihiv OblastYuriy Ivanovich Arestovich, a prominent Ukrainian agricultural and political figure, was born in the village of Sverdlovka. He graduated from the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy in 1973 with a degree in agronomy.
Arestovich's early career spanned various roles in agriculture. He worked as a collective farmer, attended a school for agricultural mechanization, and served as a tractor driver and combine operator. From 1965 to 1967, he served as a mechanic before becoming the chairman of the "Avangard" collective farm.
Leadership and Achievements
As the chairman of the "Avangard" collective farm, Arestovich implemented innovative agricultural practices and led the farm to prosperity. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor in 1981.
In 1992, the collective farm was transformed into the "Avangard" Production and Scientific Selection Center for Meat and Milk Livestock Production, with Arestovich serving as its general director.
Political Involvement
Arestovich entered the political arena in the 1990s. He chaired the Council of Collective Farms of the Ukrainian SSR and held various positions within the Rural Party of Ukraine. In 1994, he was elected as a member of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament.
In 1996, Arestovich founded the Agrarian Party of Ukraine and served as its deputy chairman. From 1999 to 2001, he belonged to the Commission on Agrarian Policy under the President of Ukraine.
Honors and Recognition
Throughout his career, Arestovich received numerous accolades for his achievements. He was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine in 2002 and was recognized with the Order of Lenin, the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, and the Order of the State. He was also granted various honorary titles, including Honored Worker of Agriculture of Ukraine and Honorary Member of the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences.
Personal Life
Arestovich's father, Hryhoriy, perished in World War II, while his mother, Mariia, worked as a collective farmer. He married Aleksandra Hryhorivna in 1940, and they had a son named Volodymyr.
