Early Life and Career
Alexander Dolgov, a renowned blues guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, was born on July 31, 1968, in Kharkiv, Ukraine, to a family of physicians. From a young age, music captivated him, and he picked up his first guitar at the age of 10.
The Birth of "Rain"
In 1985, Dolgov formed an unnamed band with Andrey Dolgov (guitar, vocals), Maksim Mishin (drums), Yuriy Vitovskiy (bass), and Aleksandr Gatsko (guitar). The group took the name "Rain" in 1986. In 1987, Sergey Kulikov joined as the harmonica player.
European Exposure
In 1989, Grzegorz Grabowski, the manager of Polish blues band "Nocna Zmiana Bluesa," discovered Dolgov's talent at a festival in Poznań. With Polish connections, "Rain" toured extensively in Europe, performing at festivals in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany.
Recognition at "Blues in Russia"
In 1992, "Rain" participated in the "Blues in Russia" festival in Moscow, sharing the stage with blues legends like "Crossroads," "Liga Bluza," and "Udachnoye Priobreteniye." Dolgov's exceptional guitar skills and distinctive style earned him recognition as one of the finest young blues guitarists.
Debut Album and International Exposure
In 1993, the band released its debut album, "Blues News," recorded at Stas Namin's studio in Moscow. In 1994, "Rain" participated in the "Stupen K Parnasu" International TV Festival, performing alongside acclaimed acts like Big Brother and the Holding Company, Bonnie Tyler, and Paul Young.
Accolades and Partnerships
Dolgov's soulful singing and original compositions gained attention. In 1997, he met and performed with legendary guitarist Mick Taylor of John Mayall Blues Breakers and the Rolling Stones.
Collaboration and Live Performances
Since 2006, "Rain" has participated in live performances on various TV shows, including "proSVET" with Dmitry Dibrov, "Brat' Zhyvyom" (2007), and "Kvartirnik UNPLUGGED" (2014).
Legacy and Honors
On February 2, 2017, Dolgov was inducted into the "Blues Hall of Fame," becoming the only Ukrainian to receive this prestigious honor.
