Alexander Yermakovich: A Belarusian Football Legend
Early Life and CareerAlexander Yermakovich was born in Luninets, Belarus, and began his football journey at the local youth academy. Under the guidance of coaches Mikhail Oleskevich and Yuri Pyshnik, he later joined Minsk RIOR, where he continued his development.
Professional Playing Career
Yermakovich began his professional career as a midfielder with Dynamo-2 Minsk. In 1993, he moved to Attack Minsk, where he spent four years before joining Belarusian powerhouse FC BATE Borisov in 1998. He became the team's captain and made a significant contribution over the next 11 years, participating in BATE's rise to prominence. His final match as a player was against Juventus in the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League group stage.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Yermakovich joined BATE's coaching staff under Viktor Goncharenko in 2009. As an assistant coach, he witnessed the team's remarkable success, winning four Belarusian Premier League titles (2009-2012), the Belarusian Cup (2010), and two Belarusian Super Cups (2010-2011). BATE also made significant appearances in European competitions during this time.
Head Coach of BATE
In autumn 2013, Yermakovich took over as head coach of BATE and guided the team to another Belarusian Premier League title. He continued to achieve success in subsequent seasons, winning the Super Cup in 2014 and leading BATE to their fourth UEFA Champions League group stage appearance.
