Early Life and Education
Birth and Education:Born in the Soviet Union, Evgeny Klimov pursued a degree in philology at Kyiv University, graduating in 1925. He then enrolled in the Kyiv Higher Music and Drama Institute, studying conducting under Vladimir Berdyaev and graduating in 1928.
Career as a Conductor
Teaching and Early Conducting:Klimov briefly taught in Kyiv before embarking on a series of conducting positions: in Tiraspol (1931-33), Donetsk (1933), Saratov (1934-37), Kharkiv (1937-40), and Odessa (1940-41).
During the War:During World War II, Klimov led the Ukrainian SSR Symphony Orchestra and the Tajik Opera Theater.
Post-War Positions
Odesa and Kyiv:After the war, Klimov became the conductor of the Odessa Opera Theater and a professor at the Odessa Conservatory. From 1948 to 1954, he served as the director of the Kyiv Conservatory.
Kyiv and Leningrad Opera:From 1954 to 1961, Klimov led the Kyiv Opera and Ballet Theater. From 1961 to 1967, he was the conductor of the Kirov Theater in Leningrad.
Recognition and Legacy
Awards:Evgeny Klimov received the title of Honored Artist of the Tajik SSR (1945) and the Ukrainian SSR (1949).
Family:Klimov's son, Valery, was a renowned violinist and laureate of the first Tchaikovsky Competition.
