Romanian Playwright, Director, and Theatrical Figure

Alexandru Davila was a prominent Romanian playwright, director, and theatrical figure.

Early Life and Education

Davila studied in Paris, where he came under the influence of André Antoine, a pioneer of realism in theatre.

National Theatre and "Company Davila"

In 1902, Davila's drama "VLaikU VoDe" premiered at the National Theatre in Bucharest. He served as the director of the National Theatre from 1905 to 1908 and again from 1912 to 1914. After being removed from his leadership role, Davila founded "Company Davila" in 1909, which featured young actors from the theatre.

Theatre Career Cut Short

Due to a paralyzing illness in 1915, Davila was forced to end his work in the theatre. Despite this setback, his contributions to Romanian theatre remain significant.
