Early Life and Education
Alexander Alekseevich Kokorekin was born on March 17 (30), 1906, in Sarykamysh (present-day Turkey). From 1927 to 1929, he studied at the Kuban Art and Pedagogical College.
Career in Moscow
Kokorekin moved to Moscow in 1929. He created thematic paintings, illustrations, and landscapes. He gained renown primarily as a poster artist.
Political Posters and Military Artistry
Kokorekin's political posters portrayed the courageous and resolute characters of Soviet citizens. He employed large-scale imagery and vibrant colors, often resembling easel paintings. During World War II, he served as an artist for the Military Publishing House and the M.B. Grekov Studio of Military Artists. He contributed to the production of "TASS Windows."
Personal Life and Legacy
Kokorekin's granddaughter is the television host Olga Vladimirovna Kokorekiona. He passed away on December 29, 1959, from smallpox after a trip to India. Kokorekin's death triggered an outbreak of the disease in Moscow. He was interred in the columbarium of the Novodevichy Cemetery.
