Early Life and Education

Alexander Leonov was born in Ukraine and holds a professional technical education. From 2000 to 2002, he studied at the Odessa Higher Professional College of Marine Tourism Service, specializing in ship cooking.

Culinary Career

Leonov honed his skills as a chef in London and Estonia before becoming the co-owner of the "Pizza & Grill" restaurant chain and the "Slow Piggy" restaurant in Odessa.

Social and Political Involvement

Civic Activism

In 2014, Leonov founded the public organization "I'm an Odessa Resident - I care." He also served as an assistant to Vitaly Kurilo, a Member of Parliament.

Parliamentary Career

In the 2019 parliamentary election, Leonov ran as a candidate for the "Servant of the People" party in the Primorsky district of Odessa. He was elected to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament), where he serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Value Added Tax and a member of the Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy.

Party Membership

Leonov is a member of the "Servant of the People" party and leads the group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with Pakistan and serves as Deputy Head of the group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with Cuba.

Controversies

Concealment of Campaign Expenses

Leonov has been accused of concealing campaign expenses during his election campaign. Journalists estimated that he spent approximately 92,000 hryvnias on social media advertising.

Corruption Allegations

In October 2019, Leonov was investigated for allegedly receiving $30,000 to support a draft law in the committee that would have eliminated corruption schemes in real estate property valuation.
