Early Career

Over time, his father compromised and decided to send his son to Paris, where Alfred learned the art of high-class clothing at the prestigious school of the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. After graduating with honors, Sang moved to New York City to study at the Parsons School of Design, one of the best art and design schools. After that, Alfred set out to hone his talents by working as a designer's assistant on Seventh Avenue in Manhattan.

Establishing the Brand

In 1972, Sang moved to Canada. His next career move was developing designs for a sportswear manufacturer in the Toronto area. After supplementing his income by using his talents in fashion illustration, he opened his own store called 'Moon' in the fashionable Yorkville neighborhood of Toronto. In 1980, Sang joined forces with the Mimran brothers, Saul and Joseph, to create 'Monaco Group Inc.' Alfred took this step to promote his 'Alfred Sung' brand and launch a clothing collection designed for working women.

Success and Expansion

A few months later, the 'Alfred Sung' brand won the hearts of customers in major department stores and specialty shops throughout Canada. In 1981, the 'Alfred Sung' label was launched in the United States through the luxury store 'Saks Fifth Avenue,' and later, Sang's design solutions appeared in the department store chains 'Macy's,' 'Nordstrom's,' 'Neiman Marcus,' and 'Bergdorf Goodman.' In the same year, Alfred opened his first store in the 'Hazelton Lanes' shopping center in Toronto.

In 1983, the national Canadian magazine 'MacLean's' declared Alfred Sung the 'Fashion King.' In 1986, 'Parfums Alfred Sung,' the fragrance brand by Sang, was launched. The first fragrance for women, 'Sung by Alfred Sung,' was born in 1986, followed by 'Shi Alfred Sung' in 2001, 'Alfred Sung Paradise' in 2003, and 'Jewel Alfred Sung' in 2005.

Expanding the Brand

Sang and the Mimran brothers launched a powerful fashion campaign in the Canadian fashion industry. The licensed product line of the 'Alfred Sung' brand included fragrances, sunglasses, jewelry, fashion accessories, menswear, wedding accessories, and more. In 2005, Zellers-HBC became the exclusive distributor of the Alfred Sung Home collection in Canada, including furniture, bedding, home decor, kitchenware, and more.
