Aleksi Aaltonen: A Finnish Revolutionary

Early Life and Education

Aleksi Aaltonen was born in 1883 in Finland. He began his studies at the Jyväskylä Lyceum in 1895 and completed his secondary education in 1903.

Military Career

In 1904, Aaltonen joined the Tsarist army and attended military school. He fought in the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905). After participating in the Battle of Moscow, Aaltonen was arrested and demoted in 1905.

Journalistic Career

Upon his release, Aaltonen worked as a journalist for socialist publications in Turku, Vyborg, and Kotka under the pseudonym Ali-Baba.

Red Guard Leader

In October 1917, Aaltonen became the head of the Red Guard in Helsinki. During the Finnish Civil War (1918), he fought in the Battle of Tampere.

Arrest and Execution

Following the defeat of the Red Guards, Aaltonen was arrested and imprisoned in a concentration camp. On August 1918, he was executed by Hans Kalm, an Estonian officer, at the hands of the Schutzkorps.
