Biography of Almaz Ibragimov
Early Life and EducationAlmaz Ibragimov is a Kazakhstani entrepreneur, top manager, and industrialist. He was born in the village of Ananyevo in the Issyk-Kul region of the Kirghiz SSR, USSR, into a family of Bukharan Jews. He was the eldest child in the family, with two younger brothers and a sister. His father worked in construction, while his mother was a housewife. The Ibragimov family was not well off, and there were times when they did not even have bread. As a result, Almaz had to start working from the age of thirteen, taking on jobs such as a mechanic, a loader, and even a breaker of stones.
Professional Career
Almaz Ibragimov is currently married and is raising six children - four sons and two daughters. He is also a close associate, team member, and longtime business partner of the "Eurasian trio": Alexander Mashkevich, Patokh Shodiev, and Alidzhan Ibragimov. Almaz Ibragimov serves as the president of two of the largest industrial giants in Kazakhstan: AO "Aluminum Kazakhstan" and AO "Kazakh Electrolysis Plant", which are part of the Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) group of companies.
Education and Achievements
Almaz Ibragimov did not excel academically in school and was considered a somewhat disobedient child. He never thought about becoming a metallurgist. After completing school, Ibragimov was called to serve in the Soviet Army's tank troops, where he eventually became a platoon commander. Fulfilling his civic duty, Almaz Turdumetovich enrolled in the Institute of National Economy in Tashkent through correspondence and completed his studies over seven years. He later graduated from the Russian Academy of Economic Sciences and Entrepreneurship, as well as the Institute of Modern Business.
Almaz Ibragimov has received numerous awards and honors, including the Order "Kurmet" and the Order "Otan" from the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the Order of Barys III degree. He has also been recognized with international awards such as the Order of Transfiguration, "Laurels of Glory," and the title of "Knight of the Order of Malta."
Hobbies and Interests
In addition to his professional achievements, Almaz Ibragimov has a passion for collecting expensive and luxurious cars. His collection includes a Soviet limousine, the ZIL-41047, which previously belonged to the former First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Kazakh SSR, Dinmukhamed Kunayev. He also owns Mercedes-Benz, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and many other luxurious automobiles.
Almaz Ibragimov took over AO Aluminum Kazakhstan during a period of collapse and saved it from bankruptcy. In the following 27 months, he built the new Kazakh Electrolysis Plant, which became a giant in Kazakhstan's metallurgical industry and one of the breakthrough projects in the country's industrial-innovative development.
