The Genesis of Ensemble Aloe
Ensemble Aloe, a captivating rock band, emerged in 1990 as a collective of ordinary Soviet schoolchildren. In 1991, they enrolled at the Sergei Prokofiev Music School in Severodonetsk, expanding their musical horizons.
Concert and Festival Debut
With a lineup consisting of guitar/vocals, contrabass/vocals, violin/backing vocals, flute/backing vocals, piano, and drums, Aloe embarked on their concert and festival journey in 1991.
Theatre Collaboration
From 1993 to 1996, the band seamlessly integrated concert performances with their work at the newly established Severodonetsk State Drama Theatre. Under the guidance of renowned theater director Anatoly Shmal, they composed music for experimental comedies, including "Dallo's Wanderers" by Caryl Churchill and "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare.
First Studio Album
In 1996, under peculiar circumstances, Aloe recorded their debut studio album, "32 Maya," in Kiev.
Transition and Rebirth
In 1997, lead vocalist and songwriter Igor Bychkov relocated to the Moscow region due to personal commitments. He joined the band "Uchi Van-Goga," where he collaborated with Vladimir Veselkin, formerly of Auktyon.
In 1998, Aloe was revived with Moscow jazz pianist Ilya Sandanov assuming a prominent role. The intimate lineup of contrabass/vocals and piano gradually expanded.
Full-Ensemble Performance
In 1999, the revamped Aloe performed as a full ensemble for the first time. By the end of the year, Bychkov left the contrabass, and bassist Alexei Bataev joined the band.
Album Recordings
In 2000, Aloe recorded the unreleased album "Kot v Meshke," marking a transformative period in their sound. In 2001, they released a limited-edition compilation titled "Puzyriki Gruppy Aloe," featuring recordings from 1992 to 2001. The album's eclectic nature evoked mixed reactions. A single featuring five songs was also recorded with the updated lineup.
