Childhood and Early Life in Ghana

Born on November 2, 2000, in the Buduburam refugee camp in Ghana to Liberian parents, Alphonso Davies faced immense adversity from a young age. His family relocated to Ghana seeking safety from the civil war that had ravaged their homeland.

Growing up in a cramped wooden shack with dirt floors and no running water, Davies began his first steps in football, finding solace on the dusty grounds. In 2006, his family decided to join a refugee resettlement program and move to Canada in search of a better life.

Journey to Professional Football in Canada

Settling first in Windsor, Ontario, and then in Edmonton, Alberta, Davies' soccer skills quickly caught the attention of local coaches. Playing for the Edmonton Strikers and training at the St. Nicholas Jr. High Soccer Academy, he consistently showcased his exceptional talent.

In 2015, at the age of 15, Davies signed a contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. His professional debut came a few months later, making him the youngest player in the history of the United Soccer League to score a goal.

International Recognition and Canadian Citizenship

Despite not having Canadian citizenship, Davies represented Canadian youth teams at various levels. He made his international debut for the under-17 team against England in 2015 and scored a goal for the under-20 team against Jamaica the following year.

After obtaining his citizenship in 2017, Davies became the youngest player to appear for the Canadian national team.

Move to Bayern Munich and Role Change

In 2018, Davies secured a highly coveted transfer to Bayern Munich, joining the German giants in January 2019. Initially deployed as a forward, Davies gradually transitioned to the left-back position, showcasing his versatility and adaptability.
