Biography of Alvaro Mauricio Domingo
Early Life and EducationAlvaro Mauricio Domingo was born on October 11, 1968, in Teaneck, New Jersey, and grew up in Barcelona, Spain. He is the youngest son of legendary tenor Placido Domingo and Mexican theater director Marta Domingo. Alvaro studied at a school in Switzerland before pursuing film production at Bard College in upstate New York, where he first met his future close friend and business partner Salvador Carrasco. He later transferred to the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, where he continued his studies in cinematography, art history, and French literature.
Career in Film
Alvaro Domingo began his career in film in 1984 when he worked as an assistant and translator for producer Patrice Ledoux, known for his work on films such as "The Messenger" (1999) and "The Fifth Element" (1997). They collaborated on a multilingual film adaptation of Georges Bizet's famous opera "Carmen," directed by Francesco Rosi and starring Placido Domingo and Julia Migenes. In 1992, Domingo and Salvador Carrasco co-founded the film company "Carrasco & Domingo Films," based in Mexico City and later in Los Angeles.
Producer and Filmmaker
Alvaro Domingo's notable work as a producer includes the film "The Other Conquest" (1998), an epic drama set after the Spanish conquest of Mexico in 1521. Released by 20th Century Fox in Mexico, "The Other Conquest" became the highest-grossing Mexican dramatic film of all time at the time of its release. Domingo also produced the documentaries "Young Artist" and "Operalia," both featuring his father Placido Domingo as a mentor for aspiring opera singers. These films were scheduled for release in late 2007. Additionally, Domingo worked on creating corporate promotional materials for the "Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program" for the Washington National Opera. He also produced the fitness DVD "YogaSing, Yoga for Singers and Performers."

In addition to his work in film, Alvaro Domingo has been involved in organizing and promoting several classical and mixed concerts featuring his father in Mexico, Latin America, and more recently, the United States.
