The Pretender

There was a woman who claimed to be Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna Romanov, the daughter of Czar Nicholas II. She claimed to have miraculously survived the execution of the royal family at the Ipatiev House.

The Fake Princess

Little is known about the woman's true identity before her appearance in Japan in the early 1920s. Coinciding with the end of the Russian Civil War, she began to proclaim herself as Grand Duchess Maria, alleging an improbable escape from the massacre.

Unveiling the Deceit

Olga Kabrok's claims were met with widespread skepticism. She was ridiculed and eventually forced to leave Japan in 1922. The so-called princess ended up in Naples, Italy, where she lived in obscurity until her death in 1976.
