Childhood and Early Life
Amanda Collin was born on March 4, 1986, in Rungsted, Denmark, the daughter of an engineer and a school teacher. She had three siblings. Her original last name was Bjørre-Petersen, which she used when she won the TV3 reality show "Jagten på en Model" at the age of 16 in 2002. This led to a contract with an international agency, and she began her modeling career.
Modeling and Acting Aspirations
In her youth, Collin's photos frequently appeared in fashion magazines. She preferred bold and provocative clothing with vibrant patterns. Despite her modeling success, she always dreamed of becoming an actress. However, her parents dismissed her aspirations.
At the age of 23, Collin dropped out of the University of Copenhagen's film and media program, finding it too dull. She worked as a booker for a modeling agency before enrolling in acting classes at the William Esper Studio in New York City.
Film and Television Career
Collin's acting debut came in 2011 with roles in short films, most notably as Svetlana in Heather Fink's comedy "Alleged." After returning to Denmark, she continued to appear in short films, including the drama "We" about a swinger's party.
Her breakthrough came in the 2014 crime thriller "A Second Chance," where she played the mother of children abducted by a psychopath. In 2017, she starred in the crime drama "The Charlatan" and the psychological drama "Ugly Woman," which sparked controversy for its perceived portrayal of women as evil caricatures.
While presenting "Ugly Woman" at the Subtitle Film Festival in Ireland, Collin was approached by Ridley Scott's casting director, Kate Rhodes James, who offered her the script for the upcoming series "Raised by Wolves."
"Raised by Wolves"
"Raised by Wolves" premiered in 2020. Set in 2145, the anti-utopian series follows two androids named Mother and Father who raise human children on a distant planet after Earth's destruction. Collin played the central female role of Mother, earning critical acclaim.
Other Notable Roles
Collin has also starred in films such as "The Exception" and "The King's Man." On television, she had a recurring role in the second season of "House of the Dragon" as Jayne Arryn.
Personal Life
In 2014, Collin began using the surname Collin. She married Kristoffer Dahllum in 2018, and they have two children together: a daughter, Frankie, born in 2017, and a son, born in 2022.
Collin is an outspoken advocate for women's rights and gender equality. She has spoken openly about her experiences with motherhood and the challenges faced by working mothers.
