Unforeseen Tragedy: Sisters Die of Brain Hemorrhages Within 24 Hours
The lives of two sisters were cut short in a cruel twist of fate when they succumbed to brain hemorrhages within 24 hours of each other, despite being in different countries.
Devastating News
The family of Amanda Williams, 54, and Jacqueline Williams, 57, were shocked and heartbroken by the circumstances of their deaths. Amanda was preparing to fly to Ingolstadt, Germany, to visit her critically ill sister Jacqueline, but she collapsed in her home in Shepshed, Leicestershire. Paramedics attempted CPR, but she later died at Glenfield Hospital. Unbeknownst to her mother, Jean Carvell, at the time, Amanda's passing occurred just hours after Jacqueline's.
A Double Loss
Jean Carvell, 80, described the news of her daughters' deaths as a "sledgehammer blow." She had just arrived at Amanda's house to discuss travel arrangements when she witnessed paramedics attending to her younger daughter. The realization that Amanda had also suffered a brain hemorrhage shattered her world.
A Close Bond
Jean spoke fondly of her daughters, recalling Jacqueline's childhood affection for her baby sister. "They were so close and got on well with all their family," she said. Amanda's daughter, Kelly Aikens, 34, echoed her grandmother's sentiments, describing them as "two peas in a pod."
An Inexplicable Coincidence
Kelly shared the family's bewilderment over the timing and circumstances of her mother and aunt's deaths. "If it was a car accident, it might be a little bit easier to understand," she said. "But two sisters, three years apart, in different parts of the world, having exactly the same thing on exactly the same day –– it doesn't make sense."
A Special Farewell
The family is working with authorities in Germany to bring Jacqueline's body home so that the sisters can be laid to rest together at Gilroes Cemetery in Leicester. Kelly expressed their desire to honor their memory with a unique funeral. "We wanted to make it a little bit different and celebrate these two amazing women," she said. "We want it to be a happy day rather than a sad one. We want to have music and dancing, because that's what we know Mum and Auntie Jacq would want."
