Early Life and Education

Ana de la Reguera was born on April 8, 1977, in the coastal city of Veracruz, Mexico. Her mother, Nena, was a former "Miss Veracruz" beauty pageant winner who pursued a career in television journalism. Ana's childhood was filled with ballet classes, and after graduating from high school, she enrolled in the Institute of Culture to study the arts. She later left her hometown for Mexico City to attend Televisa, Latin America's largest producer of telenovelas.

Film and Television Career

De la Reguera made her acting debut in the mid-1990s with a small role in the telenovela "Azul." After appearing in several other telenovelas, she signed a contract with Argos Comunicación, a production company specializing in films, series, and reality shows. With Argos, she added notable roles to her resume.

In 2000, Ana began acting in feature films, making her debut in "Gaby: A True Story" about a teenage road trip. The film won the Audience Choice Award at the Chicago Latino Film Festival and was well-received at the Havana Film Festival. Her lead role in the romantic comedy "Ladies' Night" earned her an MTV Award for Best Actress.

Ana's international breakthrough came in the mid-2000s with a supporting role in the American comedy "Nacho Libre" starring Jack Black. The film was a divisive release, grossing well but receiving overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics who deemed it unfunny. She went on to work alongside Bruce Willis in the action movie "16 Blocks" and landed small roles in the American series "House, M.D." and "Six Feet Under."

In 2011, de la Reguera joined an all-star cast that included Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde in the sci-fi Western "Cowboys & Aliens." While the film received mixed reviews, it earned nominations for its stunt work and animated effects. Back home, Ana's talent shone in the crime drama "Backyard," for which she won an Imagen Award for Best Actress, and the film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

De la Reguera continued to collaborate with Mexican and American filmmakers throughout her career. Notable films from this period include the thriller "Jessabelle" and the drama "Everything, Everything." She also voiced the protagonist's mother in the animated film "The Book of Life," based on Mexican folklore.

Ana is also known for her roles in American television series. In 2015, she joined the crime drama "Narcos" as Eliza Alvarez, a guerrilla warfare co-leader. Two years later, rapper 50 Cent produced the series "Power," in which Ana played a minor role. She was also cast in the legal drama "Goliath" and became a series regular starting in its second season. The show won a Golden Globe in 2017 and was renewed for a fourth season in 2021.

Personal Life

The beautiful actress has never been married. In the mid-2000s, Ana had a brief relationship with Mexican actor Erik Elías, followed by a romance with Mexican-American news anchor Jorge Ramos. Despite their 19-year age difference and Ramos' two previous divorces, the couple spent five years together.

After splitting from Ramos, the actress fell for economist Tomás Ruiz, with whom she stayed for two years. She briefly remained single before embarking on a romance with Mexican actor and singer Diego Boneta, who is 13 years her junior. Ana and Diego's relationship lasted until 2017.

Ana shares glimpses of her personal life, career, and activism on her Instagram account, regularly posting fresh photos, behind-the-scenes footage, and clips from her work. She stands 5'3" (160 cm) tall and weighs 119 lbs (54 kg).

Present Day

Ana continues her acting career in both films and television. In 2019, she joined the cast of the fifth "Purge" horror film, the concluding installment in the franchise. The thriller was initially set for release in 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic and premiered in July 2021.

In "The Forever Purge," Ana plays the lead role of Adela, a diner manager who immigrated illegally to the United States with her husband. During the Purge, racist factions aim to cleanse the US of "non-white" Latinx immigrants, and the chaos spreads beyond a single night. Ana's costars include Josh Lucas, Will Patton, and Cassidy Freeman.
