Early Life and Surfing Career
American professional surfer and model Ashley was born in San Clemente, California on February 10, 1987. Her surfing journey began at the tender age of 5, shortly before her family relocated to Hawaii. At the age of 6, she emerged victorious in a surfing competition using a dilapidated board found in a trash bin outside her home. By the time she turned 7, she had secured a sponsorship deal that replaced her outdated surfboard with a brand-new one.
Rise to National and International Recognition
Ashley's exceptional surfing skills propelled her to the "Triple Crown Rookie of the Year" award in 2003. At the age of 16, she claimed her first major national title. Her subsequent triumphs included two National Scholastic Surfing Association Championships and an Association of Surfing Professionals America's Pro Junior Championship. In 2010, she triumphed at the Pro Pipeline Women Pro in Hawaii, solidifying her position as one of the top female surfers in the world.
Modeling and Business Ventures
In 2014, Ashley's career extended beyond the surfing arena. She graced the pages of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, showcasing her stunning physique. Capitalizing on her popularity, she launched her own jewelry line, Gypsy Jet Set, in collaboration with OK1984. She also appeared in the October 2014 issue of Maxim magazine, further cementing her status as a fashion icon.
Social Activism and Charity Work
Beyond her surfing and modeling accomplishments, Ashley has actively engaged in social activism and charity work. In 2014, she attended the Web Summit in Ireland to discuss the role of social media in maintaining a competitive edge in surfing. She also expressed her desire to encourage Ireland's Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, to take up surfing. Additionally, Ashley's vegetarian lifestyle led her to participate in a 2006 PETA ad campaign, advocating for animal rights.
