Early Life
Anatoly Iosifovich Andreyev was born in Olviopol (today part of Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine). He worked as an auxiliary worker in Kherson before joining the Red Army in April 1918.
Civil War
During the Russian Civil War, Andreyev served as a Red Army soldier in the 1st Soviet Latvian Rifle Regiment of the 45th Rifle Division. He fought in defensive battles against General Anton Denikin's forces near Odessa and later participated in the division's breakout from encirclement near Zhytomyr. In November 1919, he joined the 14th Army and took part in the offensive on Kharkiv and subsequent pursuit of Denikin's forces west of the Dnieper River. He also fought against the armed formations of Nestor Makhno in Ukraine.
Interwar Period
From December 1923, Andreyev commanded a platoon in the 152nd Rifle Regiment of the 51st Rifle Division in the Ukrainian Military District. After attending advanced reconnaissance courses in 1924, he continued to serve in the same regiment as a company commander and assistant battalion commander. In April 1931, he graduated from the "Vystrel" Higher Course for the Improvement of Command Personnel and was appointed battalion commander in the 75th Rifle Regiment of the 25th Rifle Division. In September 1932, he became assistant chief of the 3rd Division of the 4th Directorate of the RKKA General Staff.
From May 1933, Andreyev attended the Frunze Military Academy. After graduating in May 1936, he was appointed chief of the 1st section of the 24th Rifle Division's staff in the Ukrainian Military District. In February 1938, he became chief of staff of the 46th Rifle Division in the same district. He was transferred to the Transcaucasian Military District in June of the same year, serving as chief of staff of the 47th Mountain Rifle Division. From February 1939, he commanded the 63rd Mountain Rifle Division in Tbilisi, and from October, the 20th Mountain Rifle Division in Leninakan. In September 1940, he was appointed deputy chief of staff of the Transcaucasian Military District for logistics. In March 1941, he became commander of the 136th Rifle Division.
Great Patriotic War
At the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, Andreyev led the 136th Rifle Division in combat on the Southern Front.
In January 1942, he was appointed commander of the 4th Guards Rifle Division of the 59th Army on the Leningrad Front. In May 1943, he became deputy commander of the 2nd Shock Army and simultaneously held the position of commander of the 43rd Rifle Corps. From September 1943 until the end of the war, he remained commander of the 43rd Rifle Corps.
As part of the 2nd Shock, 8th, 23rd, 59th, and 67th Armies on the Leningrad Front, the Corps participated in the Mginskaya and Leningrad-Novgorod offensive operations. In cooperation with other units of the 59th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front, the 43rd Rifle Corps played a significant role in the Sandomierz-Silesian and Upper Silesian operations. For his skillful leadership of the Corps in these operations, Andreyev was awarded the Order of Suvorov, 2nd class. In May 1945, the Corps participated in the Prague Offensive.
Post-War Career
After the war, Andreyev was appointed deputy commander of the 7th Guards Army, then commander of the 31st Guards Rifle Corps, and later senior tutor at the K.E. Voroshilov Higher Military Academy. From October 1947, he served as deputy chief of the Military Academy of Communications.
Andreyev retired in August 1949 and passed away in Leningrad on August 3, 1973. He was buried in the Memorial Military Cemetery in the village of Martyshkino in the Petrodvorets district of St. Petersburg.
