Anatoliy Babanin Biography
Anatoliy Alekseyevich Babanin is a Ukrainian morphologist, doctor of medical sciences, professor, and rector of S.I. Georgievsky Crimean State Medical University. He was born on August 19, 1940, in the village of Matyash, Priluzhsky District, Komi ASSR.

Academic Career
After graduating from Crimean State Medical University in 1965, Babanin remained at the university to engage in scientific research at the Department of Topographic Anatomy and Operative Surgery. He worked as an assistant from 1966 to 1978. In 1967, he defended his candidate dissertation on the topic "State of the evacuator-motor function of the stomach after resections using certain modifications of the Bilroth-2 method in the light of early evacuation disorders." In 1976, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Materials for assessing the sufficiency of methods for connecting the walls of the gastrointestinal tract."
After being awarded the title of professor in 1980, Babanin briefly headed the Department of Normal Anatomy at Crimean State Medical University. However, since 1982, he has been the head of the Department of Forensic Medicine with a course in law. In 1996, he was elected as the rector of Crimean State Medical University. His tenure as rector is associated with overcoming the university's financial crisis during the post-restructuring period and significantly increasing the institution's reputation and prestige abroad.
Contributions and Achievements
Anatoliy Babanin is the author of approximately 280 scientific works, including 5 monographs, on various issues of morphology, experimental surgery (mainly dedicated to various methods of connecting the walls of the gastrointestinal tract), and forensic medicine (mainly focused on forensic medical assessment of the consequences of alcohol intoxication). He has supervised the training of 26 candidates and 5 doctors of sciences. Babanin is also the inventor of several inventions. His research on intestinal sutures played a significant role in the creation and introduction of the biological suture material "Biofil," which is produced from the dura mater.
Academic Affiliations and Honors
Anatoliy Babanin is a corresponding member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, an academician of the Academy of Higher School Sciences of Ukraine, a Merited Scientist and Engineer of Ukraine (1998), an academician of the International Academy of Integrative Anthropology (1996), a member of the Polish Academy of Medical Sciences (1998), and a member of the New York Academy of Sciences (1999). He has been awarded the Order of Merit of Ukraine (III degree) and the Order of St. Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir (I degree). He has also received the Golden Medal of Albert Schweitzer and a gratitude award at the 9th International Exhibition "Modern Education in Ukraine - 2006."
Sense of Humor
Anatoliy Babanin is known for his gentle and ironic sense of humor. Based on the notes taken by Prof. K.A. Efetov over many years, several editions of a small collection called "Aphorisms and Jokes from Different Years" have been published. Here are some of his quotes: "Science needs to be invested in like a luxurious woman," "Immunological additions in surgical dissertations are like shiny trinkets for Papuans," "Student years are a reward received at the beginning of life, and it must be worked off throughout life," "Students of the medical faculty learn everything and, as a result, know nothing. Students of the pediatric faculty have the advantage of at least knowing pediatrics," and "Learning that the head of the foreign language department prefers cognac to champagne, I understood that this department is in safe hands."
