Early Life and Education
Viktor Subotelny was born on September 19, 1939, in the village of Bytakove Lake, Poltava Oblast, Ukraine. After graduating from high school, he pursued his education at the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, where he earned a degree in 1968. He furthered his studies at the Ukrainian Correspondence Polytechnic Institute, graduating as an engineer-mechanic in 1971.
Career at Turboatom
Subotelny's career in the energy industry began in 1962 when he joined the Turboatom Production Association in Kharkiv as a technician. Over the next two decades, he rose through the ranks, holding positions such as chief welder, deputy chief engineer, and secretary of the party committee.
In 1986, Subotelny became the General Director of Turboatom, a position he held for two decades until his retirement in 2006. During his tenure, he transformed Turboatom into a leading manufacturer of turbines and generators for the power generation industry.
Political Involvement
Subotelny entered politics in 2006 as a member of the Socialist Party of Ukraine (SPU). He was elected as a member of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, and served as a member of the Committee on Industrial and Regulatory Policy and Entrepreneurship.
Honors and Awards
Subotelny's contributions to the energy sector were recognized with numerous awards and honors, including:
- Hero of Ukraine (2002)
- Order of Merit, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degrees- Order of the Badge of Honor (1984)
- State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (1991 and 2005)
