Anatoly Zalivsky: Ukrainian Acrobatic Star and Cirque du Soleil Artist

Birth and Early Training

Anatoly Zalivsky was born on August 20, 1974, in the city of Berdichev, Ukraine. At the age of five, his parents enrolled him in the Berdichev Circus Studio, where he began training under the guidance of Valentin Motsny.

Education and Professional Debut

From 1991 to 1995, Zalivsky studied at the Kyiv Variety and Circus College under the tutelage of renowned circus instructors Viktor Kushvinov, Alexei Bitkin, and Nikolai Baranov. While still a fourth-year student, he made his professional debut in Boris Moiseev's show.

International Recognition

In 1998, Zalivsky's talent was recognized at the 21st International Festival of Circus Arts in Paris, where he won the gold medal. A year later, his reputation was cemented with the prestigious "Golden Clown" award at the 23rd International Festival of Circus Arts in Monte-Carlo.

Cirque du Soleil and Solo Shows

Following his international acclaim, Zalivsky collaborated with Cirque du Soleil, performing his renowned number "Dream" in their production "Zarkana." In 1999, he premiered his own groundbreaking show, "Rizoma," which became the eponymous name for his established theater collective in 2003. Zalivsky's unique fusion of circus arts and modern dance earned him widespread recognition.

Soul Circus: A New Era

Zalivsky's pioneering work in circus arts led him to conceive the concept of "Soul Circus." This style emphasizes the harmonious integration of virtuosic stunts with high-level dramatics, expressing the soul through the language of the body.

Rizoma and Rizoma.Time

In his signature show "Rizoma," Zalivsky explored themes of existentialism and the nature of time. The 2013 premiere of its revised version, "Rizoma.Time," delved deeper into these concepts, using the metaphor of a machine that controls time.

Conclusion

Anatoly Zalivsky's exceptional talent as a circus performer and his innovative contributions to the art form have earned him international acclaim. From his humble beginnings in Ukraine to his collaborations with Cirque du Soleil and the founding of his own theater company, he has consistently pushed the boundaries of circus arts, creating a new era of artistic expression known as "Soul Circus."
