Biography of Andres Stickney

Andres Stickney is an American designer of Guatemalan origin. He was born in Guatemala and currently lives in New York City. With a passion for different cultures and the natural interaction between humans and nature, Andres draws inspiration from various cultural traditions.

In 1997, Andres moved to New York City to pursue a career in graphic design after completing a Bachelor's degree in Business and Fine Arts at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. However, he unexpectedly received a job offer as a designer at 'Purple Label', Ralph Lauren's top line. This new perspective on the world of high fashion, combined with practical courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology, gave Andres the courage to launch his debut collection and showcase it alongside other underground designers in the fashionable DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Andres gained valuable experience working as a designer at 'TSE', where he collaborated with renowned designers such as Hussein Chalayan, Richard Chai, and stylist Lori Goldstein. In October 2002, he left 'TSE' to establish his own brand, 'DRES'. Starting as an accessories line specializing in innovative rubber belts that Andres designed and patented, 'DRES' later expanded to include clothing made from new materials.

Despite his success in the fashion industry, Andres remains committed to education and occasionally serves as a guest lecturer at the Fashion Institute of Technology. In the spring of 2004, he presented his first full designer collection at Bryant Park during New York Fashion Week. He gained further recognition through a documentary film produced by Channel 4, which described Andres as a "promising designer not to be missed." His collection was also featured by E Entertainment Channel and various publications, including 'WWD'.

The following year, 'DRES' released a new collection, significantly expanding its product range to include items made from perforated leather. These pieces were crafted from high-quality Italian leather, meticulously treated by experienced artisans with over half a century of expertise. The perforation improved the leather's quality by enhancing breathability, creating interesting textures and patterns, and reducing the weight of the products. In the 'DRES' studio in New York, all collections are handmade using only perforated holes. Each leather item is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside, with all seams and finishing details meticulously done by hand.

'DRES' collections can be purchased at 'Opening Ceremony' and other stores. Among the brand's fans are socialite Paris Hilton, model Theodora Richards, singer and musician Miss Kittin, and Canadian performer Peaches.
