Biography of Mayer Hawthorne
Mayer Hawthorne, born Andrew Mayer Cohen, is an American singer, producer, composer, arranger, sound engineer, DJ, rapper, and multi-instrumentalist. He was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He derived his stage name, Cohen, from his middle name and the name of the street he lived on in Michigan, Hawthorne Rd.

Early Life and Musical Influences
Mayer Hawthorne grew up in a jazz household and was heavily influenced by artists such as Barry White, Leroy Hutson, Mike Terry, and Isaac Hayes. His love for jazz and soul music shaped his musical style and taste.

Breakthrough and Career
In 2008, Hawthorne moved to Los Angeles and signed a contract with 'Stones Throw Records.' Peanut Butter Wolf, the label's founder, was amazed when he first heard Hawthorne's music, mistaking it for classic compositions from the 1960s. This led to the release of his debut album, 'A Strange Arrangement,' in 2009, with the first single 'Just Ain't Gonna Work Out'/'When I Said Goodbye' released in 2008. His second single, 'Maybe So, Maybe No'/'I Wish It Would Rain,' followed a year later.

Recognition and Unique Sound
Mayer Hawthorne quickly gained recognition among discerning musicians like Madlib and J-Rocc. In 2011, he released his second album, 'Mayer Hawthorne & The County Direct to Disc,' where he found his unique sound. The same year, he released 'How Do You Do' on the 'Universal Republic' label, featuring several successful singles like 'A Long Time,' 'The Walk,' and 'Dreaming.'
