Early Life and Education

Andrew Puzder, an American entrepreneur, was born into a family that valued education and hard work. During his school years, he found passion in rock music and became a member of a band. However, his long hair led to three suspensions from school.

Despite the setbacks, Puzder's thirst for knowledge remained strong. He attended the Woodstock music festival and the March on Washington for Peace in 1969. He enrolled at Kent State University but left after the tragedy where several students were killed during protests against the Vietnam War.

Returning to his musical roots, Puzder eventually decided to pursue higher education. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Cleveland State University and a Juris Doctor from Washington University in St. Louis in 1978.

Legal Career and Business Acumen

After obtaining his degrees, Puzder embarked on a legal career at Morris Shenker and The Stolar Partnership law firms from 1978 to 1990. During this period, he represented Carl Karcher, the founder of Carl's Jr. restaurants and later CKE Restaurants.

In 1991, Puzder relocated to California and joined Stradling, Yocca, Carlson & Rauth, where he practiced law until 1995. He then served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Fidelity National Financial, Inc.

Leadership at CKE Restaurants

In 1997, Puzder became Executive Vice President and General Counsel of CKE Restaurants. He subsequently rose to the positions of President and Chief Executive Officer, leading the company that operates over 3,200 quick-service restaurants with revenue exceeding $1.4 billion, including Carl's Jr. and Hardee's.

Political Ambitions

On December 8, 2016, President-elect Donald Trump nominated Puzder as his Secretary of Labor. This decision sparked controversy due to Puzder's previous statements opposing the minimum wage increase, citing its potential to harm small businesses and reduce employment opportunities.

Puzder also criticized the Obama administration's overtime pay rule, claiming it would limit job opportunities for workers. Additionally, he opposed the Affordable Care Act, arguing that it had negatively impacted the restaurant industry by increasing insurance costs and reducing consumers' disposable income.

Personal Life

Andrew Puzder was married to Lisa Henning, who accused him of domestic violence in 1989. Puzder denied these accusations.
