Andris Rozenbergs was born in Riga on May 20, 1938. His father's involvement in the Riga Opera and Operetta Theatre exposed him to the performing arts from a tender age.

Education and Early Career

Rozenbergs earned a degree in Philology from the University of Latvia in 1959. His thesis delved into the analysis of contemporary Latvian film dramaturgy.

Cinematic Beginnings

In 1961, Rozenbergs joined the screenplay department of the Riga Film Studio. Three years later, he became an assistant director at Latvian Television. He honed his skills as a director of segments in the newsreels "Soviet Latvia" and "Pioneris."

Debut as a Feature Film Director

After graduating from the directing faculty of VGIK in 1974, Rozenbergs directed documentaries for Novosibirsk Television. In 1977, he made his feature film debut with "Reflection in the Water," which garnered accolades as Best Debut from the Yerevan Film Festival and the magazine "Soviet Screen."
