In 1993, Serkis made his debut in feature films with a role in "Grushko." He went on to appear in films such as "Career Girls" (1997), "Among Giants" (1998), "Pandemonium" (2000), "Blessed Art Thou" (2000), and "Five Seconds to Spare" (2001). Notably, his breakthrough role came in the "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy (2001-2003) as Gollum, a character brought to life through motion capture technology. Serkis's performance as Gollum was hailed for its realism, leading to critical acclaim and recognition.

In 2005, Serkis collaborated with director Peter Jackson once again, this time portraying the iconic character, King Kong, in the remake of the classic film. He studied gorilla behavior in Africa to prepare for the role and provided his voice for both King Kong and another character, Lumpy.
