Entry into Politics
On November 22, 2019, Anand was sworn in as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Oakville, Ontario. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau subsequently appointed her as the Minister of Public Works and Procurement.

In October 2021, Anand became the second woman in Canadian history to hold the position of Minister of National Defence, following in the footsteps of Kim Campbell in 1993. Her appointment marked a significant milestone in the representation of women in leadership roles.
