Anita Rose Morris was born on March 14, 1943, in Durham, North Carolina. As a child, she grew up as an attractive girl with vivid red hair, full lips, and an hourglass figure. Morris began her career in the American Mime Theatre, where she learned to express her emotions through her body since her face was often hidden behind a mask. This experience helped her become a skilled theatrical actress.

A Rising Star on Broadway

In October 1971, Morris made her Broadway debut in the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar," where she played multiple roles including a leper, a female apostle, and a woman in the temple. Following her performance in "Superstar," she appeared in the romantic comedy "Seesaw," and the musicals "Rachael Lily Rosenbloom and Don't You Ever Forget It," "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," "The Magic Show," and "Sugar Babies." Her portrayal of Carla in the drama "Nine," which ran for almost two years with 729 shows, earned her a nomination for a Tony Award. Morris became known for her signature songs "A Call From the Vatican" and "Simple" from the musical.

A Career in Film and Television

In 1972, Morris made her first film appearance. One of her most famous roles was Carol Dodsworth, the mistress of Danny DeVito's character, in the 1986 comedy "Ruthless People." She also portrayed Rob Lowe's character's lover in the 1984 drama "The Hotel New Hampshire" and played Miss Missouri Martin in the romantic comedy "Bloodhounds Of Broadway." Morris's final role was in the thriller "Radioland Murders." Throughout the 80s and 90s, Morris made guest appearances on various television shows, including "Miami Vice," "Who's the Boss?," "Murder, She Wrote," "Melrose Place," "Matlock," and "Tales from the Crypt."

Personal Life and Legacy

In 1973, Anita Morris married actor and choreographer Grover Dale, whom she met while working on the musical "Seesaw" as his personal assistant. They welcomed their son, James Badge Dale, in 1978. He has since become a popular television actor. Sadly, Anita Morris passed away from ovarian cancer on March 2, 1994, at the age of 50 in Los Angeles, California. She was diagnosed with the disease in 1980 and was told she had only five years to live. However, she courageously fought the illness and lived for an additional ten years.
