Anna Furniss: A Journey to Overcome Obesity
Anna Furniss, a 42-year-old resident of Chingford, Essex, in the United Kingdom, had struggled with morbid obesity for years. At her heaviest, she weighed 197 kg, but she managed to shed a significant amount of weight through a surgical operation that removed two-thirds of her stomach. Inspired by her own transformation, Anna now faces a difficult battle with her 19-year-old daughter, Emily Furniss, who weighs over 114 kg and adamantly refuses her mother's suggestion of gastric band surgery.

The Struggle of a Mother
Anna and her husband, Paul Furniss, are willing to go to great lengths to afford the £10,000 operation for Emily. Anna believes it is her duty as a mother to encourage her daughter to lose weight, as she wants the best for her. For the past five years, Anna has tried everything possible to motivate Emily to fight obesity. However, these conversations only anger and upset Emily, leading her to avoid speaking with her mother and even refusing to see a doctor.

A Mother's Concern
Emily, who stands just above 152 cm, wears a British size 24, undoubtedly suffering from obesity. Anna fears that her daughter will soon surpass her own record-breaking weight. Anna first suggested diets and spending more time with her sister, engaging in physical activities like cycling, but Emily was deeply hurt by these discussions. Anna intended to show her understanding and support, but her efforts yielded no results. By the age of 16, Emily's weight had reached 100 kg, prompting Anna to bring up the topic of surgery, causing Emily to react with fury.

Anna's Own Transformation
Eight years ago, Anna herself weighed nearly 200 kg and struggled to walk. Her dresses resembled tents rather than clothing. In 2008, a doctor informed Anna that she could potentially die at any moment, motivating her to undergo the stomach-reducing operation. Remarkably, she lost an incredible 120 kg and, three years later, underwent a tummy tuck. Ironically, Anna had to lose almost 20 kg to qualify for the surgery due to anesthesia concerns. She also took up swimming as a form of exercise. Currently, Anna weighs a little over 73 kg and wears a size 14. She has never felt happier or more successful, even seeing her career flourish. Is it wrong for Anna to desire the same happiness and success for her daughter?

The Genetic Factor
Many people place blame on Anna for Emily's weight, but Anna believes her only fault lies in her genes. From the moment Emily and her younger sister, Olivia, who is now 16, were born, Anna ensured they had a healthy lifestyle, cooking nutritious meals and keeping chips and chocolates out of the house. However, both Anna and Emily inherited their Italian ancestors' tendency towards obesity. While Olivia managed to grow up as a slim girl, all attempts to instill healthy habits in Emily were thwarted by her strong-willed nature. Nevertheless, Anna and her husband remain determined to try again and again until they can help their daughter overcome the dark cloud looming over her.
