Anna Cox is the owner of an American media empire, which includes newspapers, radio stations, and major cable television channels. She also owns several internet companies and the largest automobile retail company. Anna is one of the richest women in America, with an estimated fortune of $12.5 billion, placing her 12th among the wealthiest people in America.

Family Business and Political Connections

The business owned by Anna was founded by her father, who purchased the Dayton Evening News for $26,000 in 1898. In addition to running the business, Anna's father served as the governor of Ohio and was a nominee for the US presidency in 1920. The small business, inherited by Anna and her sister Barbara, has grown to include 17 daily newspapers, 15 television stations, 79 radio channels, and numerous cable networks, with an annual turnover of $12 billion.

Other Ventures and Contributions

Running the family business is not Anna's only occupation throughout her long and interesting life. In the 1980s, she served as a director of Coca-Cola and later as the director of a regional financial institution, Fulton National Bank. She was the first woman in Atlanta to lead a banking institution and the first woman to chair the Board of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. Anna Cox is a generous sponsor of various cultural, educational, charitable, and political institutions. She actively supports the candidacy of Barack Obama, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate in the 2008 elections. Her efforts and significant contributions to the development of art and international relations have been recognized with numerous awards, titles, and diplomas. The opening of a new wing for the High Museum in November 2005 was made possible by Anna Cox's donations.

Personal Life

Anna Cox was married to Louis G. Johnson, with whom she has two children, Katherine Ann and Margarita. Her marriage to Johnson ended in divorce. In 1955, Anna married Robert Williams, with whom she has a son, James Cox, a renowned ballet artist and ballet master. Despite her advanced age, Anna continues to actively participate in the development of her business, as well as in the cultural and political life of her country.
