Biography of Anthony Milan Ross
Anthony Milan Ross, an American vegan chef and author, gained notoriety in the United States as a motivational speaker and vegan chef before committing a horrific crime. On December 26, 2017, Ross appeared in court and was charged with three counts of murder and assaulting a police officer. The now 45-year-old Ross was arrested around 10:00 PM on December 25, 2017, after a six-hour standoff and shootout with the police, according to a representative from the Phoenix Police Department.
The news of Ross's crime shocked his followers on social media. Many commented on a video he had posted on Facebook on Christmas Eve, in which his 11-year-old son Nigel sang. Nigel was found dead the next day in an apartment in Phoenix along with his 10-month-old sister Anora.
From Vegan Chef to Murderer
Ross, who had undergone significant weight loss leading up to his 20s, attributed his success to his vegan lifestyle. He shared his story in a feature-length documentary film that also featured celebrities such as James Cameron and Samuel L. Jackson.
Ross's former wife, 38-year-old Iris Ross, was shot by her ex-husband before the police arrived at the crime scene in a residential area between Highland Avenue and 16th Street. Police discovered Iris's lifeless body in the inner courtyard of the apartment complex. By this time, her killer had barricaded himself in his own apartment and could not provide coherent answers about the children's well-being. One officer was injured after a tactical police unit stormed Ross's apartment. The officer's condition is considered stable, while Ross himself was unharmed.
The Vegan Chef's Other Ventures
Anthony Milan Ross often used his middle name, Milan, when launching new business ventures, including those related to cooking and motivational training. Today, he remains in custody, facing three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, 19 counts of aggravated assault on an officer, and one count of discharging a firearm within city limits.
According to court documents, witnesses told police that they saw Ross shoot a woman who was trying to escape from him. Afterwards, according to eyewitnesses, Ross returned to his apartment, from which two or three shots were heard.
Ross initially refused to give a clear answer when police officers asked about the well-being of the children. However, he suddenly told negotiators that he had killed the children. Despite spending several hours negotiating with Ross, the police hoped that one or both of the children might still be alive. Ross later changed his story, stating that the children were fine but threatened to harm them if the police did not leave him alone.
As negotiations proved unsuccessful, a special police unit used a robot to enter Ross's apartment at around 10:00 PM. Anora's lifeless body was found in one of the rooms, and it became evident that she was dead. When the officers stormed the room, Ross opened fire. Nigel's body was discovered in another room.
The wounded officer, who had served in the police force for 23 years, was taken to the hospital with shrapnel injuries.
So far, Anthony Milan Ross has been unable to provide a coherent answer as to what drove him to commit such heinous crimes.
