Anthony Dufour
Early Life and InfluencesCanadian fingerstyle guitarist Anthony Dufour began his musical journey at the tender age of 15. While attending college, he was captivated by the sounds of Leo Kottke, Don Ross, and Michael Hedges. These legendary guitarists inspired Dufour to pursue fingerstyle guitar with unyielding passion.
Festival Success
Dufour's talent shone brightly in 2005 when he placed second at the Canadian Fingerstyle Guitar Festival. His triumph continued the following year as he emerged victorious as the festival's first-place winner. In 2006, Dufour's international reputation blossomed when he took third place at the prestigious Winfield International Fingerstyle Guitar Festival in the United States.
Album Releases and Collaborations
By sharing his compositions online, Dufour amassed a dedicated fanbase. By 2009, he had released three solo albums and collaborated on two DVDs – one with Andy McKee in 2007 and another with Craig D'Andrea and Peter Killeen in 2008. A standout collaboration was his 2009 joint album with violinist Tommy Gauthier titled "Still Strings."
Signature Style and Techniques
Dufour is known for his distinctive technique of using a handkerchief on the fingerboard to dampen string noise and enhance the clarity of his playing. His current instrument of choice is the Beauregard AD Signature Model Guitar.
Teaching and Outreach
Beyond his musical performances, Dufour shares his knowledge and skills as a guitar teacher. He offers Skype guitar lessons through his MySpace page, enabling aspiring guitarists from around the world to learn from one of the masters of fingerstyle guitar.
