Biography of Antonio Najarro
Antonio Najarro is a Spanish flamenco dancer and choreographer. He is one of the most recognized flamenco dancers in Spain. At the age of 15, he began his career, earning a diploma with honors in Spanish dance from the Professional Conservatory of Dance in Madrid. He worked in the Rafael Aguilar Spanish Ballet Theater troupe, where he performed solo roles, portraying characters such as Lucas El Torero and Carmen, traveling throughout Europe. He later worked with companies such as Ballet Antología, José Antonio y los Ballets Españoles, Compañía Antonio Márquez, and Compañía Aída Gómez. He also performed as a soloist with artists such as Rafael Aguilar and Antonio Gades. He also participated in the National Ballet of Spain, sharing the stage with Carla Fracci and others. As a choreographer, his works are part of the repertoire of dance institutions in Spain, including the Real Conservatorio de Danza de Madrid, Ballet Nacional de España, and the José Antonio y los Ballets Españoles company.
International Shows and Choreography
In 2002, he founded the Antonio Najarro company, which showcases shows such as "Tango Flamenco," "Flamencoriental," and "Jazzing Flamenco" worldwide. He has also worked as a choreographer for various ice shows, including "Art on Ice," "Dreams on Ice," "Fantasy on Ice," and "Champions on Ice" in Japan, Russia, France, Switzerland, and the United States.
Awards and Achievements
Antonio Najarro has received individual recognition, including:- First prize for choreography at the Eighth Choreographic Competition of Spanish Dance and Flamenco in Madrid.
- First prize for choreography at the First International Dance Competition, Central Theater in Seville.
- Arlequín 2009 award for best young choreographer.
- MAX Award for outstanding achievements in the performing arts among dancers.
With his choreography, figure skaters have achieved:
- Olympic gold medal in ice dancing in 2002, won by Marina Anissina and Gwendal Peizerat. Najarro choreographed their original dance "Flamenco."
- Bronze medal at the 2007 World Championships, gold medal at the Grand Prix Final, and silver medal at the 2008 European Championships, won by Swiss skater Stéphane Lambiel. Najarro choreographed "The Poet" and "Otoño Porteño" for him.
