Early Life and Education
On July 17, 1989, Anvar Osmonaliev was born in the village of Bash-Kara-Suu, Kyrgyzstan, to Elmira Toktomusheva. Raised in Bishkek, he initially aspired to become a footballer before pursuing a career in the arts, following in the footsteps of his mother, a renowned director and playwright.
Osmonaliev attended the theatrical college at Toktobolot Abdumomunov National Academic Drama Theater, studying under M. Kozuekeev, T. Abdrazaevoy, and A. Muurulaev. After graduating, he joined the Issik-Kul Oblast Musical Dramatic Theater and later moved to the Bishkek Drama Theater.
Theater Career
Osmonaliev's theatrical career flourished at the Kyrgyz Drama Theater, where he starred in acclaimed productions such as "Mother's Field," "West Side Story," "Ramayana," and "Korchut-Ata." His performances garnered recognition at numerous festivals, including international ones.
Film Career
Osmonaliev made his film debut in the 2015 drama "Beneath the Skies," which received accolades at international film festivals. Subsequent notable roles included "Neighborhood Nightmare" (2016), "Aurora Borealis: Northern Lights" (2017), and the romantic comedy "Love is Beautiful" (2018). In 2019, he starred in "After the Rain," a film about bride kidnapping in Kyrgyzstan.
Personal Life
On March 18, 2020, Osmonaliev married El-Ai Chalabayeva, a graduate and later professor of acting at the Kyrgyz National University of Culture and Arts. Their wedding ceremony drew criticism for violating COVID-19 guidelines, but Osmonaliev defended their decision, stating that they had already invited guests from far and wide.
On Valentine's Day the following year, the couple welcomed their daughter, Anél, named after the first syllables of their names. While Osmonaliev rarely shares photos of his child on his Instagram account, his wife maintains a separate page dedicated to her.
Recent Work
In 2022, Osmonaliev starred in the detective drama series "Identification," which premiered simultaneously at the Berlin Film Festival and on the PREMIER streaming service. The series explores the Kyrgyz diaspora in Moscow through the lens of a group of immigrants.
Osmonaliev remains active in the film industry, balancing his theatrical and cinematic pursuits. His talent and dedication have earned him widespread recognition and cemented his status as a rising star in both Kyrgyz and international cinema.
