Araz Abdullayev: The Story of Azerbaijan's Rising Star

Araz Abdullayev, born on 18 April 1992, is an Azerbaijani professional footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for Neftçi PFK and the Azerbaijan national football team.

Club Career

Abdullayev began his professional club career in 2008 with Azerbaijan Premier League side Neftçi PFK. He made his debut on 5 October 2008 in a match against CSKA Moscow. During his debut season, he scored one goal in five appearances.

In 2010, Abdullayev had a trial with Russian club Rubin Kazan, but the transfer did not materialize. On 7 January 2011, he signed with Premier League club Everton but was immediately loaned back to Neftçi. Later that year, he was loaned again, this time to Greek club Panionios.

International Career

Abdullayev has represented Azerbaijan at various youth levels. In 2008, he made his debut for the under-21 team. His senior national team debut came on 11 October 2008 in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Finland.

At the age of 16 years and 176 days, Abdullayev became the youngest player to ever represent the Azerbaijan national football team, breaking the record previously held by Vugar Nadirov.
