Arif Sultana, a 20-year-old woman from Bangladesh, made headlines for giving birth to twins just 26 days after welcoming her first child.
Rare Uterine Anomaly
Unbeknownst to Arif, she carried a rare uterine anomaly that went undetected by doctors during her first pregnancy. She had two fully functioning uteruses, allowing for the simultaneous development of three fetuses.
Surprise Twins
After giving birth to her eldest son prematurely, Arif's water broke again just 26 days later. Doctors performed an emergency cesarean section, revealing twin babies, a girl and a boy.
Healthy Triples
Arif Sultana was discharged from the hospital on March 26, 2019, with her three healthy children. Doctors reported no complications during the birth or recovery process.
Medical Negligence
Dilip Roy, the chief government doctor in Jessore, expressed concern over the negligence of doctors at Khulna Public University Hospital for failing to detect Arif's second pregnancy.
Financial Concerns
Despite the joy of becoming a mother of three, Arif voiced her anxiety about the financial burden of raising her children. Her husband, Suman Biswas, earns a meager $70 per month.
A Blessing in Disguise
"I don't know how we'll manage such a huge responsibility with so little," Arif said. Her husband remained optimistic: "This is a miracle from Allah that all my children are healthy. I will do everything I can to make them happy."
