Biography of Armando Trovajoli

Armando Trovajoli was an Italian composer, pianist, and conductor. He was born in 1917 and received his musical education at the renowned Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. In the 1940s, Trovajoli played jazz and had the opportunity to perform with legendary jazz musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Miles Davis.

Music Career

In the early 1950s, Trovajoli became a resident conductor for the Italian radio and television company, Radiotelevisione Italiana (RAI). He then ventured into the film industry, becoming a prolific composer for numerous movies. Notably, Trovajoli composed the music for the famous films "Marriage Italian Style" (Matrimonio all'italiana) and "Two Women" (La ciociara), for which Sophia Loren received an Oscar. In total, he worked on the soundtracks of approximately 300 films, collaborating with renowned directors such as Giuseppe De Santis, Dino Risi, Franco Rossi, Ettore Scola, Ugo Tognazzi, and Vittorio De Sica, among others.

Personal Life and Legacy

Armando Trovajoli was married to Italian actress Pier Angeli, who passed away at the age of 39. He lived to be 95 years old and passed away on the last day of February 2013 in his beloved city of Rome. His most famous composition, "Roma nun fa' la stupida stasera," has become strongly associated with Rome, earning him the title of the "voice of Rome" from the city's mayor.
