King Artavazd I of Armenia

Artavazd I ascended to the throne of Greater Armenia in 160 BC as the eldest son of King Artaxias I.

Reign and Achievements

Following in his father's footsteps, Artavazd continued the main political line of the kingdom. During his reign, in 120 BC, the Armenians faced the Parthians, who approached the borders of Greater Armenia. The Parthians failed to achieve decisive success, but Artavazd was compelled to provide the Parthians with a hostage, his brother's son, Tigranes.

Death and Succession

Artavazd I passed away in 115 BC without leaving any direct heirs. The throne of Greater Armenia subsequently passed to his brother, Tigranes I.
