Early Life and Education

Abu Yasin Ata ibn Khalil ibn Ahmad ibn Abdulqader Al-Khatib Abu Rasheed, also known as Ata Abu Rasheed, was born in the village of Rana in the Hebron area in 1943 (1362 AH). Due to the Arab-Israeli War, his family was forced to flee their village and relocate to a refugee camp near Hebron.

Abu Rasheed received his primary education at the Hussein ibn Ali School in Hebron and earned his high school diploma from the Ibrahimiyye School in Jerusalem in 1961. He then went on to study at Cairo University, graduating in 1966 with a degree in civil engineering.

Professional Career

After graduating, Abu Rasheed worked as a civil engineer in several Arab countries. He also published a book on calculating materials required for the construction of buildings and roads.

Involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir

In the mid-1950s, Abu Rasheed joined Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami (Islamic Liberation Party), a political party with the ideology of establishing an Islamic Caliphate based on Sharia law. He worked closely with the party's founder, Taqiuddin Nabhani, and his successor, Abdulqadim Zalloum.

In the 1980s, Abu Rasheed became the party's official representative in Jordan. He gained prominence during the Gulf War through his lectures and public debates, including one on "The Attack of the Neo-Crusaders on Arabia and the Gulf" held at Jerusalem Mosque in Amman.

Imprisonment and Release

Abu Rasheed was subjected to multiple arrests, imprisonments, and administrative detentions by Jordanian authorities. As a result, he was designated a "prisoner of conscience" by Amnesty International in 1998 and 1999.

Leader of Hizb ut-Tahrir

On April 14, 2003, following the resignation of Abdulqadim Zalloum, Abu Rasheed was elected as the leader of Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami, a position he has held ever since.
