Biography of Aubrey Mayhew
Aubrey Mayhew was an American music producer and songwriter. He was the sole owner of the company 'Amcorp Music Group' based in Nashville, Tennessee. Mayhew had a successful career in the music industry for over 60 years, and in his free time, he was an avid collector, specializing in items related to President Kennedy.
Early Life and Career
Aubrey Mayhew was born in Washington, D.C., to Aubrey and Verna Mayhew. During World War II, he served in the US Army. In 1946, Mayhew began working at WCOP radio station in Boston, Massachusetts. Over time, he rose to the position of music program director for 'Hayloft Jamboree.'
Work in the Music Industry
In the early 1960s, Mayhew worked for 'Pickwick Records' in New York City, where he produced one of the first programs in memory of President John F. Kennedy. This program was released shortly after Kennedy's assassination in 1963. After leaving 'Pickwick,' Mayhew founded his own record company called 'Little Darlin,' where he worked on the successful country singer Johnny Paycheck's songs.
Later Career and Achievements
In the late 1960s, Mayhew closed 'Little Darlin' and started a new project called 'Certron,' a record label. The most notable release from this label was Clint Eastwood's single 'Burning Bridges.' In 1966, Mayhew authored the book 'The World's Tribute to John F. Kennedy in Medallic Art,' published by 'William Morrow and Company.'
Outside the Music Industry
In 1970, Mayhew gained fame beyond the music industry when he purchased the infamous 7-story Texas School Book Depository in Dallas, Texas, where Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly shot President Kennedy, at an auction. Mayhew was a passionate collector of everything related to the late president.
Personal Life and Legacy
Aubrey Mayhew had three sons, Lawrence, Michael, and Parris, and one daughter, Casey. He passed away on March 22, 2009, at the age of 81. Mayhew left a lasting impact on the music industry and is remembered for his contributions as a music producer and songwriter, as well as his dedication to preserving the memory of President Kennedy through his collections and book.
