Biography of Aik Arutyunyan

Aik Artemovich Arutyunyan was born on October 20, 1955, in Yerevan. He is an Armenian military figure and a Lieutenant General. Arutyunyan served in the Soviet Army from 1974 to 1976. He then attended the Higher School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR, specializing in jurisprudence, from 1976 to 1981.

From 1981 to 1991, Arutyunyan held various positions in the operational-regime department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He worked as an investigator, operational officer, and later became the head of the department. From 1991 to 1992, he served as the deputy chief of the Investigation Department No. 1 on operational matters, and later became the head of the Labor Correctional Colony No. 18/2.

In 1992, Arutyunyan became the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia. He served as the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs from 1994 to 1996, and then as the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and National Security of Armenia from 1996 to 1999. Since 1999, he has been the Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia.

In 1998, Arutyunyan was awarded the Order of the Combat Cross, 2nd class, by the President of Armenia. In 2001, he was honored with the Order of the Combat Cross, 1st class, by the President of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. In 2004, the President of Armenia awarded him the Medal for Combat Service.

Since 1994, Arutyunyan has been the President of the Boxing Federation of Armenia. He has also been an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia since 2003.
