Early Life and Education

Babken Nikolaevich Arakelian was born in Armenia. He graduated from Yerevan State University in 1938.

Military Service

During World War II, Arakelian served from 1941 to 1945.
Academic Career

After the war, Arakelian worked as a researcher in various scientific institutions. In 1954, he became an associate professor at Yerevan State University, and in 1955, a professor. In 1968, he became a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR, and in 1974, an academician. From 1959 to 1990, he headed the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Armenian SSR.

Research and Publications

Arakelian's primary research interests focused on the history and art of Armenia. He published numerous works on these topics.
