Biography of Barbara Ann Scott

Barbara Ann Scott was a Canadian figure skater and Olympic champion. She was born on May 9, 1928, in Ottawa, Canada. Scott started skating at a young age and at the age of 11, she won her first competition - the Canadian Juvenile Championship. At the age of 13, she became the first female skater to successfully perform a double Lutz jump.

Scott had an unbeatable record. From 1945 to 1948, she won all the North American Championships, and in 1947, she became the European champion (the last competition in which Americans were allowed to participate) and the World champion. The highlight of Scott's career was, of course, the Olympics. At the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, she became the first Canadian to win the gold medal in figure skating.

After the Olympics, Scott decided to turn professional and joined the "Hollywood Ice Revue" in Chicago. However, her involvement with the Olympics did not end there. In 1988 and 2009, she carried the Olympic torch in the Olympic relay, and in 2010, she was one of the eight flagbearers at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Scott also appeared in several television films, mostly portraying herself. Her last appearance was in the series "Life and Times" in an episode dedicated to her, titled "Queen of the Blades."

In 1996, she moved to Amelia Island, Florida, USA, with her husband, journalist Tom King, where she lived until her passing. Barbara Ann Scott passed away on September 30, 2012, at the age of 84.
